What is this about?

The love of a rider, came out of my kids wanting to learn how to ride horses.

First thing first if you have a son or daughter who wants to ride a horse. First step is to say NO, just kidding. Seriously it is a great thing for kids and adults alike. (I will talk about this in a later post)

I have a background with horses. As a child, I rode both English and Western styles and participated in 4-H. I was involved with horses not just by riding them but also by caring for them when friends went on vacation. Horses are magnificent creatures, each with their unique personality. The horse I rode as a child was a big, lovely boy named Nikki. He often preferred doing what he wanted rather than what I wanted, but he was incredibly sweet. I met him on the day he was born and loved him from that moment until the day he passed away. He had the same owner throughout his life. Visiting and riding him was my introduction to horses, and he had a few pasture companions as well. My experience with horses helps me guide my kids in riding and caring for the lesson horses they use.

This blog was designed to assist parents whose children have developed a passion for riding, but who may lack experience in this new athletic pursuit. Yes, I said athletic. Riding horses requires a significant amount of effort. Contrary to popular belief, you don't simply sit on the horse while it does all the work. I aim to help you understand the instructions your child is receiving and the tools used to care for the horses.
