Yes, is the short answer. Riding competitions are an all weather sport, unless it is severe (lightening, thunder, tornados) THE SHOW WILL GO ON!
We had quite the soggy show day, but hey, the show must go on! It rained all day long, and by the end, everyone was drenched. Raincoats are a fun way to keep both riders and spectators a little drier. Just a heads up: umbrellas are a no-go! They can spook the horses, which is the last thing we want. Luckily, there are clear jackets available for the shows that let everyone see your number while keeping you somewhat dry. I always make sure my rain boots and coat are ready for action, and I keep her show raincoat packed in our show box just in case of a downpour!
Now, the course might get a bit messy, no matter how fancy the drainage is, depending on how much rain we get. Don’t forget to cover your saddle when you’re not riding to keep it safe from the rain. And it’s super important to dry your horse off well to keep them looking spiffy and to wash away any mud or sand that might have splattered on them. This sport rolls on, rain or shine! Snow? No worries! Those shows usually take place indoors when it gets that chilly. Just kick back, enjoy the fun, and make the most of the experience!
